Hit the Shutter

It's been a fine, rich professional life filled with experiences already, but something has remained constant through all the change. It is the feeling of calmness and clarity behind the camera, before I hit that shutter. From sweating it out in the dust, waiting around the corner to capture a moving vehicle in its moment of glory; making it into the valleys well before the sun came out; tweaking lights for a dark shoot in a shed in the middle of nowhere or figuring out light on a Japanese mountain; this feeling has stayed with me, and it is the source of my work. Along the way, this flame inside to shoot has been fanned generously by some great people; magazine editors, riders, teachers, adventurers. My cameras and computers have added new dimensions to my explorations of light and motion. And through it all, this one thankful constant. The feeling in the moment that I hit the shutter.
